Rare LeBron James Rookie Card Fetches Record $1.8M at Auction

A 2003-04 LeBron James Upper Deck rookie Patch Parallel card has sold for $1.8 million at auction.

This Sunday, the rare card sets a record when it was auctioned at Goldin Auctions to Lob.com CEO Leore Avidar. According to ESPN, it’s the most any modern-day basketball card has ever sold for.

The Upper Deck rookie Patch Autograph sets typically produce 99 of each card. This James card, however, was part of the rare Patch Autograph Parallel set that only produced the same number of cards corresponding to the number on the player’s jersey. As James wore the number 23, there were only 23 of this card made.
